There is no single listening-position percentage that is universally optimal. The best place to sit depends on your room dimensions, speaker positions, listening height, modal behavior and the movement range you can actually use.

The best listening position depends on the room dimensions, the speaker positions, the listening height, the room's modal behavior and how far you are realistically able to move. A percentage can be a useful starting point, but it cannot account for all of those variables.

Why it exists
The heuristic is intended to avoid some strong symmetrical positions along the room's length and gives a setup process a repeatable starting point.
Where it helps
It can be a practical first experiment in a rectangular room when you need somewhere sensible to begin.
Where it stops being universal
The figure is not a universal acoustic optimum. It does not know your speaker positions, room proportions, height, furnishings or the actual modal pattern.

Why the exact center deserves care

The geometric center can coincide with symmetry conditions in the room's mode shapes. Along an axis, some odd-order modes have a pressure node at the midpoint while even-order modes can behave differently. That does not make the center universally bad; it means the center can be a particularly structured position for some modes.

The useful question is not “center or no center?” but “what does this room's modeled field do around the position I can use?” Small movements can change which spatial pattern the listener samples.

A position is part of a system

A listening position cannot be evaluated independently of the sources that excite the room. The same chair can produce a different modeled result when the speaker pair changes, and the same speakers can produce different results at a different chair. This is why the product treats the movable object as an explicit choice rather than applying one universal placement rule.

AcouField convention

Guided mode searches the listening position along the stereo mid-axis by default. Advanced mode leaves the search unrestricted in the horizontal plane. In both cases, the result is a modeled candidate within your declared movement range.
